Musketeer Cake

This cake was for a triple birthday. We have an almond cake with mandarin filling and a musketeer-whipped cream frosting.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I know, I have posted this kind of cake before, but it is just so pretty that I think we can see it again. This one is a lemon pound cake, with lemon mouse filling, and a lemon cream cheese frosting.

Babyshowers

It was a busy week for baby showers. Here are two of the cakes. First we have a Hannchen Jensen Cake with chocolate pieces. A lady from German school wanted something German. From all I heart there were no leftovers.
The second one is a chocolate cake with a vanilla mousse filling. And yes, it is a girl (well, I don't know, but they ordered pink).

Halloween 2009

My kids are not ready for really gory cakes. So here is a kid friendly Halloween Cake. Two layers of chocolate cake with cookies-and-cream filling.

Yu-gi-oh Cake

Slowly I am working my way through the games. After Pokemon and Viva Pinata we finally have a Yu-gi-oh Cake. The pyramid is made with alternating layers of chocolate and vanilla cake. The sign is made from chocolate.

Rubber Ducky Cake

I was asked to make a rubber ducky cake for a baby shower. For the first time I actually carved a cake and then covered it in marzipan. Thanks Janet for challenging me!

Summer Cupcakes

I love decorating cupcakes, because you can give each a different motive and still follow a theme. With the butterflies and the black- and raspberries I wanted to celebrate the end of summer. The berry cupcakes are already pumpkin, but the butterfly ones are the good old chocolate.

Big New Cake

It was Barbara and Randy's big End-of-Summer-Party and I was trying new recipes and working on a new frosting. So here it is: a hazelnut cake with an espresso mouse filling and my new "lighter" German butterbream. I think I have been able to reduce the calories by half without using anything artificial. It is all just butter and milk, but much less sugar.

Littlest PetShop Cake

One of my daughters classmates had a birthday and she is very much into Littlest Petshop right now. So I made a two-layer chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling. Her favorite puppy sits on top of an Oreo-style cookie.

Summer Babyshower

This week I made cupcakes for a baby shower. We have Vanilla cupcakes with flowers and butterflies and Carrot cupcakes with cute baby girl chocolates.

Baseball Icecream Cake

This baseball cake is actually a chocolate cake shell filled with vanilla and chocolate ice cream. As frosting I made a combination of whipped cream cheese and whipped heavy cream. The frosting freezes, but thaws fairly fast and softens while the cake comes up to temperature.

Cupcakes for the summer

We lately had a lot of "year end" parties and what better to celebrate with than cupcakes. I have been experimenting with multicolored frosting and so far I like it. Kids love it, moms are suspicious of the intense color, but it is just the same old food coloring, just a lot of it. You have probably noticed, that pastel is not much of my color scheme.
Then we have my attempt of baseballs and last, but not least a version of Smores cupcakes. I put graham cracker crumbs and cinnamon in the bottom, a mild milk chocolate dough on top and the frosting is 7-minute marshmallow frosting, that I torched to give it that nice scorched flavor.

Las Vegas Cake

For our school auction which was Las Vegas themed, I made a simple vanilla pound cake with chocolate chips and covered it in dark chocolate ganache. The cake was topped with a "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign made out of chocolate.

Charlotte-Torte

This is a German "Charlotte" Torte. A bowl is lined with a jelly roll and then filled with a yogurt-creme fraiche-whipped cream and fruit mixture. The variations are endless with different jams, fruit and any combination of dairy products. The cream is held together with gelatin to make the torte stable.

Cookies-n-Cream Cake

Here we have a white chocolate cake with a cookies and cream filling. The groom really likes the Hershey's Cookies-n-Cream bars, so this cake was very fitting. The top and the bottom layer are white chocolate, the middle is a regular chocolate cake.
After I finished the cake and took the pictures, I realized I had forgotten to put on half of the flowers. So back into the kitchen we went to add more flowers. Unfortunately I forgot my camera for the Wedding. The cake looked great on the table with a quilt in purple and sage.

My Little Pony Cake

Amelia decided she wanted a "My Little Pony Cake" for her birthday (okay, there was some probing from me). The pony baking pan was made by Wilton until the early 1990s and has not been made since. So it was very lucky that a friend of mine has one and I was able to borrow it. The cake is our regular triple chocolate cake with my cream cheese frosting.

Guinness Cupcakes

In honor of St. Patricks Day I made a Guinness-chocolate cupcake with Guinness buttercream. The cupcakes contain besides Guinness and chocolate a lot of molasses and spices. The buttercream is an Italian meringue buttercream infused with Guinness.

Fairy Land Cake

Instead of the regular princess cake I made a Fairy Land Cake for Amelia's friend Alex. It is actually surprising that it took so long for this theme to appear considering fairies have been ruling my world for nearly a year now. The yellow cupcakes made a great base and the chocolate castle is always a hit. Instead of digging a mot I made a jello pond. A few flowers and ladybugs and off course (edible) glitter finished everything. The kids loved it.

More Cupcakes

It is chocolate and cupcake season. We made some half chocolate-half vanilla cupcakes for my daughters classroom. It is always hard for kids to decide, what they want, so I tried to make it a little easier.
And another one of my friends had a baby shower, so I got to make some more baby chocolate pieces. Well, it works for girls colors, too, as you can see.

Circus Cake

This cake is for a little girl who likes horses. Her mom found this set of circus horses, so we made a circus. The horses are galloping in graham cracker crumbs.

New Years Cupcakes

For New Years Eve I made cupcakes for a party. I love to get whimsical. And you can try something new with every cupcake!
